Activities
Ogwini Lodge is 6 minutes away from the beach. We offer dive charters with the many scuba diving schools around us and you can do and see a lot of things while here like turtles laying eggs in season, deep-sea fishing, horse riding and micro light flights. These activities needs to be booked with the tour operators in the area
Scuba diving
The Maputaland coral reefs are the number one dive destination for most South African divers with over 100 000 dives being undertaken on these reefs per year. Most of the diving is done on four reefs, 2 Mile, 5 Mile, 7 Mile and 9 Mile reefs, named for their distance from the Sodwana launch site at Jesser point. Divers are taken out in semi-rigid inflatable boats that can take up to eleven divers. The launches are straight from the beach through the surf. These types of launches are unique to the Kwazulu Natal and Mozambique coast and are a adrenaline rush! This thrilling experience adds to the excitement of the dive.
Fishing
Sodwana offers excellent fishing, either from the shore or from ski boats. Plenty of game fish are caught here and it is also home to some of the biggest fishing competitions in Africa. Black and Blue Marlin can be caught from the ski boats. There are a number of fishing charter operators at Sodwana, they operate large ski-boats with experienced skippers for the visitor who wishes to try his hand at game fishing.
Snorkeling
The snorkelling at Jesser Point at low tide is excellent, or you can do some great snorkelling further north at Mabibi. Sundowners are popular at Lake Sibaya, a freshwater inland lake about 15 kilometres from Sodwana. There is a curio market off the main Sodwana beach for some local shopping too.
Turtle Tours
Guided turtle tours are taken along the beach between November & January.
For the more energetic there is quad driving through the plantations. You can also go flying in a micro light over this pristine area. These activities needs to be booked with the tour operators in the area
